New Zealand plants article from English magazine, 'The Garden', reproduced within the publications section of the O2 Landscapes website

The Royal Horticultural Society's journal on gardening and general horticulture, 'The Garden', published a special feature on New Zealand plants and horticulture in their November 2006 issue. The five articles which focussed on New Zealand (four of which are written by New Zealand horticulturists/writers and one by leading UK plantsman, Roy Lancaster) covered the native plants and landscapes of the country, their discovery and aspects of New Zealand's contemporary horticultural scene.

The first of these articles, 'Islands of diversity: landscapes and plants of New Zealand', was written by Philip Smith of O2 Landscapes. The article provides an overview of the highlights of the New Zealand flora, with a look at outstanding and interesting regional landscapes. Regional landscape types covered in the article include the northern offshore islands of the North Island, the Western Nelson area, alpine herbfields and the Sub-Antarctic Islands (amongst others). Publication in 'The Garden' is a major event for New Zealand horticulture, as it is the foremost gardening publication in the world. Other articles within the special feature are on New Zealand plant hunters (by Roy Lancaster), Bev McConnell's garden at Ayrlies (by Neil Ross), New Zealand garden attractions (by Julian Matthews) and an opinion piece by plant breeder, Keith Hammett.
