Philip Smith's presentation for the 2007 IPPS conference added to website
The presentation that Philip Smith delivered at the 2007 IPPS conference concerned a group of Northern European horticulturists who have exerted a strong influence on the design ethic of O2 Landscapes. It explores the concept that, in some cases, greater gains may be made for the conservation of endangered New Zealand plants through an integrated planting style (in contrast to a purist stance). Another outcome of such an approach is that it may represent one way forward for traditional gardening within New Zealand.
The presentation has been published in the international proceedings of the IPPS, commonly referred to as the 'Black Book'. However, we have included it in the essays page, so that we can include a large number of the images from the presentation. Philip has also advocated for the genesis of such a style in a recent talk at Pecha Kucha in Auckland, and within a recent article for 'M2 Woman' magazine.
