Home of the Year

April 4, 2013

Stevens Lawson Architects have won a fourth ‘Home of the Year’ award for the Headland House on Waiheke Island. Our congratulations go to the architects and to the clients, who were a pleasure to work with on this project.

O2 Landscapes was involved in the overall garden layout and planting around the house. Part of our role was to bed the house (which was already very sensitively designed by the architects) further into the landscape, and establish an appropriate foreground for the spectacular location (which overlooks the Hauraki Gulf).

Notable features of the plantings include extensive areas of Muehlenbeckia complexa (which connect with plantings of the same species already present on the site, and provide habitat for an existing population of copper butterflies), several specimens of a rare, northern coastal native tree called Nestegis apetala, and swathes of a Hauraki Gulf-sourced groundcover called Pimelea urvilleana ssp. nesica.
