Shoreline geometry

These steps are a very good example of the kinds of vernacular forms that can serve as inspiration for designers. They represent a direct and pragmatic means of providing access in a tidal zone. They are found at the eastern side of Parnell, on the foreshore of Hobson Bay.

Due to their placement and elevation, this simple set of cubes forms an orderly but sensitive juxtaposition against the organic forms of the shoreline geology. The manner by which their line tilts sideways at two points on the photo above was probably practically driven, yet forms a very nice aesthetic.
